If Only by Louise J - Book Review

Callie
What’s a girl to do when she meets a man who claims the heart that she’s already given to someone else? My boyfriend is everything I’ve ever wanted, he’s perfect, but when I met Joe ... I can’t even describe the intensity of my attraction to him. I’d never experienced anything like it before. Since then, it’s become something so much deeper and I’m finding it impossible to ignore what I feel for him. I know I’m already with the man I should be with, yet I want Joe. I can’t seem to get my head and my heart to agree on this. I’m not about to cheat and I won’t just drop the man I love. But what do I do about Joe?

Joe
Tattoos, bikes and women – that’s been my life for the last two years and it suited me just fine. Until the day I swerved to avoid a raggedy old VW Bug heading my way, hit the sidewalk, and ended up sprawled on my back. I came around to a pounding headache and the most gorgeous girl I’ve ever seen. Don’t know if it was the effect she had on me, or the accident, but I somehow managed to let her go without exchanging information, more importantly numbers. Maybe it would’ve been better if things had stayed that way. Maybe then I wouldn’t be caught up in this dilemma. I should do what most guys would do and pursue her, regardless of her being in a relationship. Trust me, it’s tempting. The problem is, I’ve been on the receiving end of a situation similar to this, so I know the hurt I could cause and I don’t think I can do that. But I want Callie. I want her bad.

When Callie and Joe met, neither were prepared for the sequence of events that would follow, or the impact of the choices they would go on to make.

If only is book one in the Captured series. Adult Contemporary Romance. This series is not intended for those below 18 years old due to graphic sexual content and use of language.

MY REVIEW -
After reading the blurb, I thought this book was all about cheating…

I honestly would have not finished it, but then it was not. Thank goodness. Instead, I was treated for one heck of a rollercoaster ride between two amazing characters.

There problem would have been easily solved if there was no boyfriend in the picture and if there were just honest enough about their feelings for each other - it would have saved them all the trouble!!!

Callie was torn – Nick was the perfect boyfriend for her – he was kind, gentle, hot, loving and he was everything she could ask for. At 18, she was so sure that he was the one, until Joe came along. Suddenly this tattoo artist who likes women and sex disrupts her thoughts every now and then. But can she give up her relationship for a guy who just wants one-night stands? Callie is a nice girl, who tried so hard not to cheat on her boyfriend. In fairness to her, despite the attraction she has for Joe, she didn’t act on it until she was already free from any relationship. And it took them SEVEN LONG YEARS!

... yes it took them that long.

There’s Joe – he's sinfully sexy, hot and...

... tempting.

With this character, I thought he would have go for it (sorry for being judgmental). But he had been cheated before, and there’s no way he’s going to be the other end of the relationship – he totally had me at that.

He knew they had something nice going on, so he decided for the next best thing – becoming her friend. For years, he had to fight off the urge, the intense longing, the temptation not to succumb to his attraction. He tried to go into a relationship, but didn’t work out. When he knew that finally Nick and Callie weren’t together anymore – he made his move.

And he did it pretty fast. Just like what I expected – Callie and Joe together…

hot, intense, emotional, powerful and just RIGHT. Because finally, the long wait is over. Two people who are destined to be together found their way into each other’s arms.

OR NOT.

Just when everything seems perfect, here comes trouble knocking on their door… (repeat again…)

I thought I was nearing their HEA – I have waited sooooo long for the two of them to be together, and then it happened!!! It made me wonder if they were really meant to be together… ARE THEY OR WILL THEY STILL GET BACK TOGETHER??! The question looms in my head as I continue to read the novel, dreading, anticipating and just eager to finally get into the last page.

Callie and Joe made mistakes which cause them a lot, especially time and happiness. They made stupid decisions, and broke their hearts in the process. I think it would have save them the trouble if they both decided to talk it out rather than run away, or tiptoeing around each other. But in the end, these mistakes had allowed them to grow and heal the wounds.

Great characters – not just Callie and Joe, but the rest of the gang. They were made up of interesting bunch. I loved Dane, and I couldn’t wait to read his story next. Gerard’s too – I think his story would be an interesting one as well. Callie and Joe are lucky enough to have friends who are as crazy, as supportive and as amazing as them. Su was such a loyal friend to Callie. She was always there for her when she needed her most, kept her secret and gives her support in whatever ways she can. She might not agree with some of Callie’s decision – but she stood by her.

Join Callie and Joe in their emotional rollercoaster ride to happily ever after. I enjoyed reading this novel, my heart broke a little though, I think I heard myself wheeze and throw in some curses at one point, pant, fan myself all throughout those off-the-charts steamy scenes, but in the end, I fell in love. Louise J made an incredible love story that will make you believe in HEAs and soul mates. Indeed, if you’re meant to be, no matter what happens, no matter what the circumstances are, fate will lead you back to each other one way or the other.

RATING:

AUTHOR BIO -
Louise J has always been a daydreamer, but never considered writing a novel until days before typing the first words to If Only. Joe and Callie (and Gerard) appeared in a dream and her mind has never been her own since then, and she’s never alone. When she’s not writing she spends a lot of time missing out on huge chunks of conversation, movies, and TV shows thanks to many wonderful, but highly invasive characters bouncing around in her head, showing her their stories. In the name of research, those fabulous characters have led her to parts of the world she never would have dreamed of, and, as a result, has gained some of the most amazing memories. The rest of the time Louise J is trying to be a good wife to the greatest husband she could ever have asked for.
