This is Hunter & Gabby’s story -   

Hunter Markham gave her an earth-shattering kiss at 18, then broke her heart after. Ouch, right? Especially when you have been in love with someone all your life, then suddenly they thought that kiss which curled your toes, made you high, and caused fireworks was suddenly a mistake.

Years later, Hunter had retired from Surfing at a very young age, while on the top of his game, and opened a beach bar called Last Result. Gabby was not happy that he’s back, and she hopes to stay way from him as much as possible – but when he offers something she wanted just as badly, she couldn’t just walk away. It’s a chance of a lifetime, it’s something to prove herself in a world dominated by men.

He tries his best to break the ice around Gabby’s heart, acknowledging the mistake he made years ago – he was willing to do anything for her. But first, he needed to win the battle of wills with Gabby.

I’m trying to figure out my battle plan with her, because this is a war I’m going to win.

And Gabby’s the grand prize.

Working together daily proved to be detrimental to Gabby’s heart. Little by little, he charmed his way back into her heart, and before she knew it – he was already there. Her feelings for him had always been there, taking a hiatus, until he was slammed back into her life, stirring those feelings back into the open.

There was much to love in this story –

Hunter – he was on TOP of his game, and almost reached the number 1 spot in surfing, but he decided to retire early for his family and opted to stay at home. He knew he was needed, and all he wanted to do was to make things back to the way they were. What he didn’t expect was to fall in love with the girl who always have a soft spot in his heart. He knew what he wanted in his life, and it surprised me. His choice was something I haven’t really expected, but was glad he made that kind of choice, glad that he was stubborn to give up, and glad that he can see through BS.

Gabby – she tried to fight it, put her whole self into trying to fight what she feels. But when she was about to lose, she gave in and it was worth all the pain, internal humiliation she felt for several years after THAT incident. I get it that she was afraid, that she was just trying to protect herself from all the possible devastation, she was terrified of taking the risk and breaking her heart the second time.

But them – TOGETHER – it was magic. They were good for each other, they were meant to be together. With both of them in the room, sparks were shooting in every corner. Now what went wrong? An ex-girlfriend, and a determined agent. Difficult decisions have to be made, and it will affect the both of them – it will either make or break them.  

The story went well, not a dull moment, the steamy scenes were pure SEXY, and I was so glad THIS WAS A STAND ALONE. For a moment there, when I was nearing 90%, I thought it would continue on the next book – good thing it did not. Sawyer Bennett ended this story perfectly, not over-dramatic (thank goodness), but enough to rouse emotions in your heart. I loved it, and I’m greatly looking forward to Brody’s story – I was so relieved to know it was his story next. Because if there was one person that have triggered my curiosity, it would be this guy!

What a way to start a series! Sawyer Bennett started with an incredible set of characters, a plot worth reading, and enough information to build anticipation for the next book in the series. Last Call is one series you would not dare miss.
