Kylie Scott returns with the highly anticipated follow-up to international bestseller LICK.
Author: Kylie Scott
Genre: New Adult Contemporary Romance
Release Date: March 25, 2014
Mal Ericson, drummer for the world famous rock band Stage Dive, needs to clean up his image fast—at least for a little while. Having a good girl on his arm should do the job just fine. Mal doesn’t plan on this temporary fix becoming permanent, but he didn’t count on finding the one right girl.
Anne Rollins never thought she’d ever meet the rock god who plastered her teenage bedroom walls—especially not under these circumstances. Anne has money problems. Big ones. But being paid to play the pretend girlfriend to a wild life-of-the-party drummer couldn’t end well. No matter how hot he is. Or could it?
"Life is a song, Anne. Let's play."
I
laughed, I laughed, and I laughed some more to the point that I got worried
that the sudden twist Kylie Scott is about to do might wreck me.
I
enjoyed reading this novel, despite the fact that it is a Monday, I could not
think of a more perfect way of spending the day than to lazily sprawl out in
bed, with my Kindle on hand, reading these two awesome novels by Kylie Scott.
Since both can be read as a stand-alone (thank goodness), I went with Play
first.
OMG!
Everything was REALLY CRAZY! MAL IS CRAZY! In a good way, of course.
"Why does everyone insist on being heavy all the fucking time? Life's too short for all this over-sharing. You're here. I'm here. We can help each other out and have a good time while we're at it. That's all that matters."
Mal
was the drummer for the world famous rock band, Stage Dive – and between him,
and David, I would have him any day at all. I like my men hot and funny – and a
little crazy on the side. He needed to have a plan – get someone to be his
pseudo-girlfriend for the moment, clean up his act temporarily, having ‘hook-ups’
in every city wouldn’t work this time. What he didn’t count is for Anne to come
into his life, and making him realize that permanent may not be that bad after
all.
Anne
– I hate the fact that she’s gullible enough to allow other people to use her.
It’s just heartbreaking to watch a nice person being used and abused by people who
lacks conscience. And for her to wait around for a friend, who doesn’t see her
for what she’s worth while he’s busy sleeping with other girls – arrghhhh…. Everything
in her life was just falling down in pieces, especially when her roommate just
bailed out on her, and rent-collection is coming around the corner – until Mal
came into her life. She couldn’t believe the fact that the man whose face is
plastered around her wall is right in front of her – offering her to be his
pretend-girlfriend.
Then
there’s Reece – he’s her boss and long-time friend, and she would have settled
for him. Thank goodness Mal came into the picture. I would have hated her
settling for something less than what she deserves. He didn’t really see her,
until Mal entered her life and he felt the competition.
I
really thought it was a prank, or he was just kidding her – imagine my surprise
when she went home one day and found him on her house, feeling at-home. Gaahd. I
could just imagine the look on her face!!!
So
what difference does it make – between those people who are out to use her, and
him asking her to be his fake-girlfriend? First, he’s a rock god, who’s so
effin hot, even me would be putty in his hand (LMAO! – kidding). He’s pretty
persuasive about what he wants, but he wanted her to set boundaries, to fight
for what she deserves, and to go after what she wants. And for that, he owns my
heart.
But
this guy has a lot more on his shoulder than he care to share with her. She
knew he needed a girlfriend for something, something so big he couldn’t share
to her. He doesn’t talk to her about it, I mean, he can talk about anything
except that fact, and when finally the secret is about to be revealed, he did
one stupid thing that had my jaws dropping, and the twist that I was waiting
for? It happen. And I was right, Kylie Scott had me laughing off my chair,
probably to ease the pain of my heart shattering at this point.
Why
couldn’t he just talk to her?! Why can’t he tell her? What their having – it’s
becoming real! Why ruin it?
I
feel Anne’s pain – her cleaning the whole house until she can see her face on
the floor, I soooo can relate. But it’s really sad watching her do it, trying
to clean all the pain away, as if disinfectants can do it. Seeing her being
taken care of by her friends, and sister makes all of this bearable. Because all
her life she had been taking care of everyone, and this time, there are people
who is taking good care of her…
But
of course, Kylie didn’t allow her readers to remain broken hearted, ah, she
made it up big time and once again, put that smile back into my face as the
novel ends.
This
is one of those books I have unexpectedly love, and immediately recommended to
my friends. I couldn’t get enough of Mal’s antics, and his craziness. There
wasn’t a page in this book that had me void of emotions, I was laughing my
heart out, swooning, or tearing up. Kylie Scott wrote an amazing second book to
her series that made her readers to scream out for more!

"You don’t have to
make sense. You just have to want to be together and be willing to do whatever
it takes to make that happen. It’s amazingly simple. That’s love, Ev, putting
each other first."
This
book has been sitting on my Kindle for far too long, reading Play and seeing how these two love
birds act around made me want to read how it all started.
What
happens in Vegas – is pretty damn unpredictable. Waking up married to a
stranger, a hot stranger can be very alarming, especially when your head is
pounding, your stomach is churning and you have no recollection of what
happened and how it all transpired.
How
in a matter of days your life changed, and did a 180 – Evelyn Thomas got it all
planned. Until she went to Vegas to celebrate her 21st birthday
party, and woke up with a big diamond ring on her finger, married. Suddenly her
life was in chaos, paparazzi were chasing her, some fans are harassing her, not
to mention the managers and the lawyers who are too eager to hand her the
divorce papers.
What
she didn’t expect was to strike up a friendship with her ‘husband’, gave in to
the intense attraction, and decided to give it a go during their escape from
LA. But she was in for a big surprise, when trust issues surfaced in, some
secrets were uncovered, and a heartbreaking scene that made her lose hope to
have her fairytale worked out.
I
ought to hate David for all of this, but how can you hate him when he begins to
grovel, and ummm… stalk her? It may have took a while because of some
circumstances, but when he finally found the time, he rushed to her, and tried
to win her back without pushing her. He was patient enough to wait for her, and
even strike a friendship if it was too much to have him back in her life as her
husband again.
Since
I have already met the rest of the group, it was still refreshing to see Mal,
in all his glorious craziness, and I really didn’t like Jim in this novel. I
soooo preferred him in Play. But of course, he did make-it up in the end part
of the novel.
It’s
sexy, it’s steamy, it’s one heck of a ride for the newlyweds. And if you think
you have laughed out loud, fell in love, and got all hot and bothered, wait
till you read Mal’s story!
