Wes may be a miracle, but Gabe – he’s a god.
I don’t do relationships, I do girls.
A little jerk, a little annoying at first – but once you get to know him, dig deep down inside him, you will find a broken boy who is eaten up by his past, his guilt and his secret.
SECRETS. Can you keep one?
You know how people always come with baggage? I don’t have baggage. I have a freaking house. I don’t have a closet full of skeletons, I have seven bedrooms full of them.
Because Gabe doesn’t trust anyone with it, it just him and his cousin Lisa who knows everything about him, his past and the thing that is haunting him. Even his best friend Gabe didn’t know anything. He’s running out of time and he can’t keep his identity a secret any longer. If it’s only him, it didn’t matter, but he needed to protect someone, a victim of his poor choice and impulsiveness.
He tries to pretend that he’s okay, that he’s perfectly fine when he’s not. He puts on his mask – three of them actually: different persona, one man.
I was a romance novel waiting to happen
Saylor played the piano, but hearing someone played it masterfully, and with a lot of heart – how matter how dark and angry it sounded, moved her. She didn’t expect was to find a stranger who didn’t want to be heard or disturbed at all. But Gabe didn’t really made a very nice first impression. So, it ended up with Saylor hating Gabe.
But they were unexpectedly forced to work together in a group home Gabe frequented. If she wasn’t concerned about her grades or graduating on time, she would have given up. But no, she stayed foot and try to fight the attraction that is building between them. One broken guy is toxic, one girl with issues is toxic, combining the two would be lethal.
When they finally stop pacing around, and finally faced the music and stop denying their attraction- it was pure magic. Here comes the big BUT: he has some BIG secret he couldn’t reveal yet. Someone he had to protect. Someone from his past. If only he had the courage to tell her this…
I LOVED IT - from the first page, down to the last – every chapter headings, every heartfelt dialogues, all the characters (well, almost all) – even when they’re at their worst. It’s the secret that kept me reading all throughout the novel, it’s the intensity of the emotions that allowed me to go on, no matter how heartbroken I was in some pages, it’s the happily-ever-after I desperately seek for this two that kept me going.
They say RUIN made every reader cry – so my expectations were high in this novel. I was like – Rachel Van Dyken – this better be good! This better make me cry! This better crush my heart! This better make me fall in love! Because how can you possibly make another novel to top RUIN?
After reading this: I SWALLOWED EVERY BIT OF EXPECTATIONS I GAVE. Because Rachel Van Dyken DELIVERED. She effin DELIVERED! I can’t believe it. Until now, 2 nights after I read TOXIC, I’m still in a haze, suffering from a terrible book hang-over, and if friends would ask me right now, or a few months after what to read – I, without a doubt, would highly recommend this one.
I wanted a book to crush my heart – TOXIC did it.
I wanted a book to make me cry – oh heck, Gabe made me cry!
I wanted a book to make me fall in love – tell me who can resist Gabe?
YOU ARE! Yes! YOU’RE THE (WO)MAN, Rachel Van Dyken!
