Even a broken heart has trouble
resisting a Stubborn Love.
Emmie Hayes loved the beautiful
Ashton Stirling deeply; nobody could deny that. She had given him her youth,
and all he gave in return was misery and pain. She was ready for a new
beginning, but Ashton wasn’t about to let her go so easily, even if it meant
destroying both their lives in the process.
Three years later Emmie convinces
herself she is ready to leave all of that heartbreak in the past and find a
little piece of normal for herself. She heads to New York City to pick up where
she left off, determined to finish art school. Emmie is determined to focus on
school and not let anything distract her, but life has a way of throwing
curveballs.
Paige, Emmie’s new roommate, brings
Colin Bennett into her life. His smoldering eyes and lean muscular body are
difficult for any girl to ignore. Only thing is, Emmie isn’t any girl. Her past
makes her resistant to his charms. Colin isn’t one to give up easily, and just
when he thinks he may have found a way to her stubborn heart, her tragic
history may have found a way to tear them apart.
The start of the story started with a bang. Literally, a bang. It was a strong start, an emotional one. I was starting to love Clementine for standing up and finally walking out on someone she had loved for so long but managed to break her spirits. It was a brand new start, until her old love, Ashton decided to go through with his threat. The fresh beginning that I was hoping for her, came crumbling down.
Emmie had been with Ashton for as long as she can remember. She was a nobody, an artist and Ashton was the popular guy who came from a rich family. She married out of high school, sacrificed her dreams of going into an art school and became who he wanted her to be. But living with Ashton wasn't easy - it was like going through hell. But she loved him, and tried to put up with him. Once she no longer can, she decided to walk out. Yet, freedom cost a price. Instead of feeling free - guilt consumed her.
Three years later, Emmie finally decided to conquer New York and picked up where she left off. She is determined to finish art school and decided to put love and dating aside. No distractions needed. But as usual, fate came knocking on her door, and here comes the sexy Colin Bennett.
Emmie's new roomie, Paige was the one who pushed Colin Bennett into her life. She was his younger brother's girlfriend. How can you blame Emmie from ogling him at first sight? The cover had me swooning, and once I got a mental picture of his eyes, I think I was ready to marry him. He was a responsible brother who was forced to grow up a little early and take care of his brother. He had no time for a relationship and just casual hookups. Until he met Emmie. She was not that kind of girl, one look at her eyes, he saw all the pain and suffering that she was hiding.Yet, he didn't force her to tell him all about it. He took his time in wooing her, until finally, she gave up. However, Emmie's past comes right after her, it may just cost their relationship and a chance to once again start anew.
Emmie was a stubborn character, she started out strong, and I would definitely pin for her then. But once the tragedy struck, she became her old self. Okay, the trauma could have been the cause of it. But she was ready to move on and begin her life again! She allowed guilt to tamper with her life. Three years later, she was still the same person, afraid and guilt-filled. Good thing that Colin was as stubborn as she is and didn't gave up until he could finally reached her. Paige was an amazing friend too, her character was the person that Emmie needed to survive New York.
I like how the story progressed, there were certain slow parts, but nevertheless, the ending was what I hoped it could be. After all the things that had happened to Emmie, she was finally get what she deserves, but of course, not after an incident with a crazy stalker and ex-in-laws. Stubborn Love is all about moving on, letting go and finally allowing yourself another second chance. Second chances are always right around the corner, it is up for us to grab it, hold on to it and accept it. I wish Paige and Christian would have theirs too. They are an interesting couple. :)
RATING:
“I’m sorry, there must be some kind of mistake. Paige said this was a loft, and well, this is not what I pictured.” I grimaced, confused by the picture before me. When I thought of a loft I imagined the glamorous images in magazines. This place definitely had the industrial thing going for it; after all, it was pretty much a factory floor with some furniture on it.
“And what exactly did you picture?”
“Something that didn’t make me feel like I needed a tetanus shot after standing in it for ten minutes,” I replied honestly.
With that, the faceless voice came into view. As he stood, my breath caught in my throat. He stared at me for a moment, not saying a word. I was fine with this because I found myself staring right back.
He stood there, just looking at me, one dark, sinister, and oh so sexy eyebrow raised. He was a shirtless Adonis, there in the flesh, and I was helpless, unable to look away. For a moment, my eyes shifted down, drinking in his firm chest, chiseled abs, and the tease of the cut just above where his distressed jeans rested. His muscles were hard, though his body still lean.
Quickly, when I realized I was ogling this stranger’s body, I forced my eyes to shift back to his face, but there was no relief there from the exquisiteness. His straight, thick, dark black hair looked like he had just gotten out of bed, absolute perfection. I could even tell from the distance I stood, his eyes were a breathtaking icy gray. His complexion was flawless, accentuating the stubble of his three-day beard.
