Brianna Heart has a six-year old daughter and a twelve-year plan to keep her life as simple as possible until Layla turns eighteen. That means swearing off relationships and the drama that goes along with them, working two jobs, and being the best damn mother she can be.
The last thing Capital Series Gran Prix racer Hugh Braden wants after dating media-hungry leggy models and money-hungry fan girls is a blind date. But how could he turn down a favor to one of his best friends? Hugh expected the date to go poorly, but he didn’t expect to be intensely attracted to the beautiful brown-eyed bartender who completely blows him off—and steals his every thought thereafter.
When Brianna’s perfectly orchestrated life turns upside down, Hugh is there to help, softening the turmoil, and maybe even rescuing her heart from the lonely place where it has been hiding. Can a man who doesn’t believe in fate and a woman who doesn’t believe in true love find happiness in each other’s arms forever?
my review -
Love has no ones. Love is whatever it is, and trying to fit it into a box all neat and tidy will never do anything but drive a man crazy. Love isn’t neat and tidy. Love’s messy and, in some ways, indefinable.
The
first thing I said to myself before I opened this book – THIS IS IT. IT’S HUGH’S
STORY. AFTER THIS, NO MORE BRADENS FOR ME.
I
was torn between savoring every word, and every scene because this is the last
book in the series (Braden’s side that is), and being able to finish it as fast as I can to know what will happen to the
characters in the novel.
This
is totally the opposite of what I have expected for Hugh Braden – but Brianna
Heart, and her little girl, Layla is exactly what he needs to tame his
adrenaline-driven life.
HUGH
= PERFECT.
He’s
successful, rich, sexy, handsome (Patrick Dempsey handsome), kind, thoughtful,
sweet, and generous. He’s everything rolled into one single package and any
girl would be lucky to have him – that is if you can catch his attention.
Being
surrounded by family who are very much in love with their partners, he longed
for something like that as well. Dating media-hungry and money-hungry women
lost his appeal – he wanted someone responsible. It started with a blind-date
set by his best friend gone awfully wrong, someone else had caught his
attention. He had the biggest surprise of his life when this beautiful
bartender blew him off rather than falling into his lap. Now, she got his
attention.
Twelve
Years – that is exactly how long she will remain celibate.
After
her daughter has been born, she hasn’t been out on a date or entertained
suitors. Bree was afraid it will cause complication in their lives. She didn’t want
what happened to her to happen to Layla. She had a father one day, then none
the next. She wanted a stable, noncomplicated practical life for her daughter. Even
if it means having two jobs, and swearing off men until her Layla reaches
eighteen. She might be young when she got pregnant, and her dreams had been put
on hold – but she didn’t regret it, and for that she had earned my love and
respect. Young, and single she strived hard to be the best mother and provider
to her daughter – and it’s really not an easy job.
Then
she meets Hugh – and her promise about dating and being celibate is suddenly on
dangerous grounds. WHO CAN SAY NO TO A GUY WHO LOOKS LIKE THIS?! (NOT ME!)
I don’t want a night here or there, a date when we can fit in. I’m not pushing, and I don’t think I’m crazy. I just know I never want to be without you, and I want to take care of you and Layla with every piece of my heart and soul.
He
woes, not only her but her daughter as well – he was sooooo sweet, and I think
my heart just melt when he wanted to inlove Layla in the relationship. He didn’t
just want Bree – he wanted her daughter too! I love watching him trying to win
them over (talk about GRAND GESTURES)
– but BREE, she has some serious trust issues.
Hugh
had to overcome everything to finally have an ending similar to his siblings –
a happy one. His patience, perseverance and determination were rewarded in the
long run. He got exactly what he deserved, and I’m so happy for all of them.
The
Bradens is one of my favorite contemporary romance series to date.
Besides
the romance, and hot, steamy scenes that had me swooning for a while now – it stresses
one thing that some of us take for granted at times – the love of family. Their
relationship wasn’t always perfect, they had a lot of fights and
misunderstanding along the way – but at the end of the day, at the end of
everything – family will always be family. They will always stick by you. They will
always love you. Nothing can ever change
that. Thank you Melissa Foster for allowing us to know these amazing people,
and now that Hugh’s story is done – I can’t wait to meet and read the next
series: the Remingtons.
