I know what you're thinking. “You were such a jerk, Nick!” Believe me, I know I screwed up the best thing I had going in my life, but that was kind of my thing. I’d learned how to run cons before I could even form complete sentences, and I'd always been selfish. But I changed. Lila forgave me, my brother and I were getting along, and I was trying to make a name for myself in the music world.
At least that was what I was trying to do when I negotiated my way into the recording studio with pop superstar Sadie Sinclair. I thought it would be a piece of cake—charm my way into her heart and into her record label's good graces.
Just when I thought I had it all figured out, I got mixed up in a web of lies, manipulation, and deception. A web that had me questioning my motives and desires altogether.
Was the fame and fortune really worth the price?
my review -
Nick
had screwed up probably the best thing that ever happened in his life and it
went to his brother. Now, it was time to move on, be happy for his, ahem, best
friend and fulfill his long-time dream: becoming a music producer.
He’s
in for the biggest con of his life – he didn’t expect it would be that fast. He
entered the music industry swiftly, got himself a client, and is about to get
laid by a pop sensation. He was living his dreams already!!!
He had met his match
and she’s a REAL PIECE OF WORK.
Because
Sadie Sinclair might be America’s Sweetheart, but she has a lot on her than she
lets on. Then there’s Gia – she used to be Sadie’s sidekick in one of her shows
and is now her personal assistant. Despite the fact that he’s with Sadie, he
couldn’t help but be attracted and be intrigued with her PA. She’s pretty,
mysterious and she works real hard. She could have been big, and she still has
her offers – why settle on becoming a PA?
Sadie
reminded me of someone who is currently in the music industry today – and who’s
name I won’t mention. I’m sure her name would come into your minds once you
have read this novel. I think she fits perfectly to the role of Sadie. I don’t
like her initially, and I hated her as the story goes. She’s a prima donna, she’s
rude, and she doesn’t have manners. Fame, bitterness and envy got into her
brain and clouded it. It is just sad that Nick had to stay with her for the
sake of his dreams, when he could have Gia all along.
Gia
– you got to love her, and wished really hard she’d slap Sadie so hard her head
will spin. She allowed her so-called friend to walk all over her, and
brainwashed her when she needed help the most. She fed on her vulnerability. She
wanted Nick, but because he’s with Sadie, she stepped back. Gia was selfless to
a fault. This great girl has some secrets well-kept only she and Sadie know
about, and Nick is going to find out what it is.
I
hated Nick at first, but as the story continues, you can see his character
change. From someone who will do anything for his dreams, he definitely did a
180. I thought at first he would succumb to the temptation, but he made me
proud with his decisions. It was pretty hard, considering everything he did to
finally reach where he is, but it was all worth it.
It’s
showbiz! Lies, manipulation and deception runs through every corner of it – I wonder
how long Nick will last. He might have grown up conning, but immediately
realized that this was totally way different than he was used to. The stakes
were bigger, the consequences graver, and his heart might be on the line.
After
the entire chase, the heartbreaks and the deception – it call came into one
scene I hadn’t expected. I don’t know why I liked it so much, despite its simplicity;
it was beautiful, shows that love has the capacity of NOT BEING COMPLICATED. From
the cover down to its contents: I so love the twists, getting inside the blitz,
glamour and dirty alleys of show business, falling in love and hating the
complex characters and most especially the ending.
