The Thrill of It by Lauren Blakely - Book Tour, Book Review, Giveaway

A new adult story of Love. Sex. Addiction. Blackmail. And Power...

Some say love can be an addiction. Others say it's the thing that makes life worth living. Let me tell you everything I know about love...Love isn't patient, love isn't kind. Love is a game, a chase. A thrill. Love is wild and war-like, and every man and woman must fight for themselves. At least that's how it was for me. A high-priced virgin call girl by the time I started college, I was addicted to love and to sex. Even though I've never had either. I controlled love, played it, and held the world in the palm of my hands. Then I fell down from those highs, and I'm being blackmailed for all my mistakes, forced to keep secrets from everyone, except the only guy I don't regret.

With all the other women, I knew what they were. They were temporary. They were pills, they were bottles, they took away all the pain, and numbed the awful memories that wore down my ragged, wasted heart. Until I met Harley. She's the only girl I ever missed when she walked away. But now she's back in my life, every day, and there are no guarantees for us, especially since I don't know how to tell her my secrets. What happened to my family. All I know is she's the closest I've ever come to something real, and I want to feel every second of it.

How can you love with no regrets when regret is all you know?

Did you get the same thrill when you read the blurb?

Harley AKA Layla is a call girl. She’s nineteen, a virgin, and definitely not a whore – but a call girl. Now, I wonder how cans this young girl from a good (although broken) family came about the profession. She is addicted to love, sex, and most of all – CONTROL. Now, someone is blackmailing her, forcing her to go into group therapy – SLAA and is obliged to keep these facts to anyone, most especially her mother. Then there’s Trey – the man whom she doesn’t regret. The man who had made her feel something else.

At first, I felt sad for her mother, but I guess, I was wrong. This woman is not a mother, she is selfish and indirectly pushed her daughter into where she is now. Her career and her men are more important than Harley. Little did she knew, that Harley did everything to save her sorry ass. I hated her, and I wished that Harley allowed her ruin rather than sacrificing herself. She didn’t deserve it.

Then there’s Trey – he loved sex, with older women. Sex is like pills for him – it makes him forget, takes away the pain and blanks his mind from painful memories from his past. Meeting Harley has been something else. She’s the only girl, who’s younger than her, whom he wants to be with. He couldn’t stop thinking about her. He too has some secrets he doesn’t know how to tell her. But how can he possibly start a relationship with someone special when he couldn’t be real with her?

Two broken people, met in the most unusual circumstances, who had more demons in their past, and currently fighting their present ones – and no matter how f*cked up the both of them are, I can say that there is no more perfect match for them than each other. I wish both of realize it in time and work out their baggage.

The cover was beautiful, the blurb made it more interesting, and I trust Lauren Blakely to just as good, and thankfully it was. It may have been started out with my head swirling of what was going on, but once the story picked up – I was hooked and totally thrilled as I read from one page to the other. There were a lot of surprises I didn’t see coming, sudden twist that had me off guard and an ending that had me panting for the next one in the series. Just as when everything gets really, really interesting, my Kindle says 100%. I guess I need more patience to wait for the next one!
