What do you do when life doesn't go as planned?
Nobody plans to be abused. Emma Dunn certainly didn't. When life with her fiance' takes a terrifying turn, she flees to her hometown of Chicago without looking back, and her brother Kevin takes her in. Life is slowly getting better for Emma, thanks in no small part to real-life Prince Charming, Nathan Weber. He sweeps her off her feet, almost literally, and dotes on her from day one.
But when the unexpected happens and their pasts catch up with them, can their fairy tale still have a happy ending?
Even the strongest can break. Love has the power to consume, but also has the power to break.

I like books that deals with social issues, especially when it's as sensitive and is not given that much attention as domestic violence.

I'd admit that I had a hard time reading through the pages at first with elaborate descriptions and narrations. I struggled a bit and finally adjusted with the pacing of the book. Good thing, I kept on going and opted to give it a chance, because I really want to know what will happen to Emma. The struggle was worth it.

I couldn't say I like Emma at first. But coming out from any bad and abusive relationship can make anyone insecure, emotional and a little bit paranoid. Trust is hard to come by especially when it has been previously shattered by someone you never expected. Nevertheless, readers will see how her character evolves as the story goes, how she gave love and life a second chance and learned to trust her heart to someone again.

Nate, on the other hand, is her Mr. Wonderful and her knight and shining armor. At first I thought, it was a bit fast since she just came out from a bad relationship. But Nate is a type of guy you can easily fall in love with. There are times in the book when I couldn't help but wonder if Emma will be going through the same thing again since Nate has his 'cranky moments'. But then, most of the time, he shows the he loves Emma and is willing to do anything and everything to make her happy.

And Kevin, I love this guy! He reminds me of my brother who is ready to lend an hand (with no questions asked) when we need it the most. Despite being a bachelor (and he must've need his privacy), he made a room for her, and allowed her to stay with him until she was back on her feet. Emma is lucky to have him.

Despite the pacing, I can't believe that all these things happened in the span of one year. It's almost a lot to take in with all of these things happening between Emma and Nate, as well as their own families. It was definitely one heck of a journey.

Wrapping it all up, A Lucky Second Chance is a story of a woman who is given a second chance to start in life after the hell she has been through. The plot was great, but the pacing and the elaborate narratives may need a little work. Still, it was still worth the read, just be patient :).

Rating:

Nathan turned into an alley, wrapped his arms around my waist, and gently pushed me backwards against the brick wall. He slid his hand up and pushed my hair aside out of my face, and gently grabbed my head, tilted it back, and locked his luscious lips to mine. He stood there kissing me as our tongues met, twirling inside our mouths. He was heavenly. Holy shit. God, he knew how to kiss. I loved the feel of his warm hand on my cheek and his other hand firmly grabbing my waist. My heart beat faster and faster as the kiss intensified, mesmerizing me. I took my hands and pushed him back softly and took a deep breath.

We both stood there for a few seconds and just stared at each other completely speechless. There it was again, that radiating feeling that just shook my body.
