After a year of partying, Samantha decides to buckle
down and focus on college. Things are going great until a one-night stand
leaves her pregnant and alone. Raising a child while going to school isn’t
easy, but Sam is determined to be strong for her daughter. She doesn’t have
time for guys or relationships, and takes great care to protect her child and
her heart.
Judd doesn’t fit the mold of a college ballplayer.
His long hair and tattoos may fit the life he’s created for himself, but
baseball is the one thing he takes seriously. When he meets Sam, he’s
immediately drawn to her curves and refusal to put up with his crap. When Judd
learns the truth, can he handle the responsibility that comes with loving a
single mother?
Sam yearns for the fire that Judd fuels in her, but
her child’s needs have to come first. Can two people at different stages in
their life find a way to make a life together?
I totally love Sam, she accepted the consequences of her actions and is able to live with it. She had been a party girl during her freshman year and stopped when she realized her grades are suffering. Just when she decided to focus on her studies, a one-night stand left her pregnant. The guy did not want to do anything with it. She's lucky that her parents supported her - studying and raising a child is not a walk in the park. But Sam is determined to finish college and provide for her daughter, even if it means having no time for relationships.
The thought of getting pregnant again is terrific birth control.
I totally agree with her. Sam is not perfect. But she tries to be a good mother to her daughter and places her daughter's need ahead of her own. She wanted the next man to accept and love her daughter just as much as he would love her. I couldn't blame her for knowing Judd before she spills her secret, and test the water first before she decide if Judd was worth it. She's surrounded by people who loves her and who is ready to help her in time of needs. I totally adore both Molly and James.
Judd, on the other hand -
Jude doesn't do romance.
Unlike any other baseball player - he likes to keep his hair long and sported tattoos. The only thing that he values in his life (except for his dad) is baseball. Girls? Oh he likes them alright - but he's not the commitment type. He likes to date - but not to get serious. Until he meets Sam - she was different from any other girl he met. She wasn't taken by his charms. However, Judd is determined to have her. He worked his way to her bed - and on the way, she caught his heart. What happens once Judd knew about her daughter? Will he be man enough to fight for what he feels and take the responsibility that comes along in loving Sam?
Judd maybe a player and he doesn't do romance - but he loves deeply. I like how he cared about his father. How he tries to help him recover from his problems and most especially from his mother's death. He's a great son and great sons are most likely to be great dads. Because one look at Sam's daughter - and he's already smitten.
I like how the story ran its course - the pacing was just perfect and I think the ending was totally perfect. Sam made a decision that may have broken both hearts - but it was for the best. Sam probably knew that if what they had was real - nothing can come between them, not even time, not distance. It was a wise decision and it made me love Sam even more.
“No one ever plans on hurting someone else, it just happens.”
I thought it would end abruptly because it was short, but I was wrong. Bethany Lopez allowed me to fall in love, admire every single character in this novel despite their flaws and just had an amazing bedtime story for myself.
