We’d both gone missing at one point, but Claire had
one thing I didn’t. Someone to notice. So why was I the one still here and she
the one still gone?
Nineteen year old Megan Smith has spent the past
year working in a small town diner in the middle of nowhere. Life is quiet,
simple, safe. Then comes the news that her look-a-like has gone missing.
Claire.
Still damaged both physically and mentally, Megan's
not looking to be noticed. Wherever she goes from here, it's a road she needs
to take alone. But when Nickolas Ellis takes the job as the new nightshift
cook, it scares her how easily her defenses crumble down, down, down for him.
But there are secrets she can't bear to share with just anyone, unspeakable
acts that continue to haunt, and when the similarities of Claire’s abduction
couples with the fear of an unwanted visitor in town, the urge to run before it
all happens again intensifies, threatening the only happiness Megan's ever
found.

Another one of those books which I really didn't expect to like - but surprisingly I was shocked, on the edge of my seat, my eyes were totally wide in unexpected turn of events, fell in love, and somewhat relieved. This book had me turning pages rapidly - hoping, praying, wishing that Megan will get what she deserves - a happy ending.
Megan is tough - or this could be an understatement because if an ordinary girl would go through what she had experienced, I don't think a weakling could survive it. But SHE DID! WOW! She's nearly broken - but she withstood, still had a grasp of herself. Not allowing anyone at all to totally defeat her. But the hell she had been through was her personal secret. It was something she could not just share with anyone.
Nick - he's a total angel. A man after my own heart - he could cook the best meals and serve gourmet in a fast food joint. He was sweet and sexy but Megan didn't want anything with Nick - she wanted to be invisible. But with him, her defenses fades. Can she allow herself to fall for him?
Danger lurks around the corner, waiting for her to make a single mistake - Megan had the urge to run before everything that she had survived surfaces and engulfs her once again.
The story dwells with a sensitive topic that happens in real life. The author threaded carefully, bravely and honestly to inform us, her readers and warn us that yes - this could happen to anyone. And that yes, there are other people who needed help badly. I couldn't help but admire her courage in writing it all down in one beautiful piece. Reading it was hard, but the whole journey with Megan was totally worth it. Life is not a piece of cake most of the times. Some people goes through the hardest stuff thrown by fate. But when the people around him/her supports and never gives up - everything will turn out (not perfect), but just fine.
