Only For You by Genna Rulon - Book Review

Only For You
For You Series #1
Genna Rulon

“In its purest form love is self-sacrificing, eternal, selfless, enduring, truthful, forgiving and indulgent. It also feels an awful lot like a kick to the stomach when you try to fight it!”

All Everleigh Carsen wanted to do was complete her final semester at Hensley University and begin the life she carefully planned.

When a wave of violent crime seizes campus, Everleigh is persuaded to attend a school sponsored self-defense seminar by her best friend, where she meets volunteer instructor, Hunter Charles. After Everleigh’s biting sarcasm induces Hunter to eject her from class, a tempestuous relationship is born.

Everleigh is determined to forget the striking man, but fate—that fickle shrew—continuously intervenes. Unable to escape him, she declares Hunter an enemy combatant. The only complication…Hunter is resolutely pursuing vindication…by any means necessary. Verbal warfare ensues, and despite Everleigh’s ingenious efforts, in Hunter, she has finally found her equal.

Only For You is a compelling tale of friendship, desire, and redemption—brimming with intelligent characters, witty dialogue, unexpected twists, profound sorrow, unfettered hope, and love’s unassailable perseverance.

MY REVIEW -

This is one book I honestly didn’t expect to REALLY, REALLY LOVE!!! But I read, I laughed, got entertained, fell in love, broke my heart, cried, and had my heart thumping so hard in suspense. I never got bored, I was glued to every page and could not help but to love everything about it. When I finally reached the end page, have an ambivalent feeling of thanking Ms. Rulon for the wonderful novel at the same time wanting to read the next one as soon as possible (which is by the way really not needed since this book is pretty much a stand-alone).

Everleigh is not a morning person, and remained a monster until she got her first dose of caffeine. The only person who knew her inside out is Sam. She and her best friend Sam were more of sisters than friends. They are a package deal since they first met, where Ever goes, Sam goes. So when she decided to go to Hensley, Sam went with her despite the fact that she was admitted to almost all major Ivy League universities in the country.

Sam is everything you would want for a friend. She's always there for Everleigh, most especially when she's needed. She's down to earth even though she's from a very rich family. Her parents might be absent, but all she needed was her friend. Just when she’s going to have her happy ending, tragedy strikes. My heart broke for her at the end of the novel, but we will soon again encounter her on Pieces For You.

Everleigh had one final semester at Hensley University before she sets out in the real world. All she wanted to do was to get it over and done with – but the university was not a safe place anymore. When crime starts to escalate and more girls were becoming victims to horrendous crimes, which are becoming more and more violent, the university offers a free self-defense class to appease the parents and the student population.

There she encounters the HOT volunteer instructor, Hunter Charles. But their first meeting didn’t went well when he rudely ejected her from the class, thus the verbal battle begins.

This is what I love MOST about this novel is the intelligent and witty conversations between Everleigh and Hunter. It was like watching the ultimate verbal foreplay. I like men who can stimulate my need for intellectual intercourse.

He’s HOT, he’s sexy, he has some jaw-dropping martial arts move, and he’s intelligent – HUNTER IS A CATCH. But Everleigh is thinking differently. Yay.

The verbal warfare paved way for friendship between these two – they may not be as close as she and Sam were but he was becoming an indispensable friend. Not just because he makes her feel comfortable, but he makes her happy as well. She finally found her match. Armed with the knowledge of his ‘preferences’, she tries to fight off the attraction – but it was worthless. As the days goes, they grew more and closer to each other. She thought they were on the same page. Until, Hunter told her he could not commit.

I fell in love with the plot, the characters, the twists, and most especially the dialogues. Genna Rulon has a way with words that will captivate her readers. Only For You is an unputdownable story of friendship, deception, and romance that will make you feel a whole range of emotions and keep you reading until you finally reach the final page. This is one book that you wouldn’t want to miss!
