“I’m going to stick around, I’m going to see him, I’m going to talk to him, I’m going to tell him how I feel until he agrees to give me another chance.”
I didn’t think I would like a girl who cheated on her
boyfriend during his lowest point. I was set to hate Tammy. Girls like her
don’t deserve a second chance. She threw fourteen years out of the window when
she decided to betray Walsh. For The Love of Lush, pleaaaasee find someone else
for Walsh!!! (That’s my sentiments in the first chapters of the novel)…
But as I continue to read this, she won my respect – can you
imagine that? I was sure I’m going to hate her. She had the determination of
righting her wrong, of begging his forgiveness, of wanting him back. But how
can she do that? How can their relationship withstood something that big?
Walsh was getting better – he was almost there. Living in
Double A Ranch in North Texas, it was so far away from his previous life of
being a drummer. He’s learning to live his life without booze. He had survived
alcoholism, rehab, the breakup of his band but what he was still dealing with
was the ultimate betrayal of his ex-fiancee and his friend. And now, the girl
is back. Just when his life is getting in order – she pushed her way into his
life, invading his senses, making him spiral back down.
They were already together at fourteen, how can you say
goodbye to a relationship that lasted that long? They started out so young,
been together for ages, and already imprinted in each other’s lives. How can
one live without the other? How can you stop a habit?
Tammy was holding on to it, trying her very best to
apologize, to tell him how sorry she is, and how awful she feels about what
happened, and when she finally gave her reason why she did it – (I DO NOT
CONDONE CHEATING, I hated it!) but she too, was at the lowest point of her
life, she felt vulnerable, scared, and alone – she thought she was losing Walsh
and the only person who shared the same emotion she feels was him. But, she
regretted it, and until now, she was paying for what she did. I don’t know what
happened, but as the pages goes on, you will learn to love and forgive this
girl who worked so hard into mending Walsh’s broken heart.
I love Walsh, he did some mistakes in the past, and even
fell off the wagon – but his hard work, all his sacrifices in trying to become
sober had won me. He was aching inside after the betrayal he experienced, and I
understood why it was hard for him to forgive her. Fourteen years, and he was
in his lowest point!!! Good thing he has Ron, Mike and the rest of the people
in the Double A, not to mention his determination to keep himself away from booze.
This book is Walsh & Tammy’s journey towards
forgiveness and second chances. Not just with their relationship, but with
themselves as well. These two characters started out so young, but they were
meant to be together. Their relationship had enough bumps to last them a
lifetime, but love, no matter how big your mistakes are, will always find a way
to forgive.
Selena Laurence wrote a book that will make you
experience great love after a severe heartache. It shows that no matter how
long the relationship are, people will always commit mistakes, and it will be
always up to you if you give that person a second chance, and give your
relationship another try. After all, they say love is always sweeter the second
time around.
“But love is more complicated than knowing. More complicated than wanting. Sometimes love, even in its purest, most vital form still isn’t enough to overcome the circumstances of our lives, our psyches, the emotional detritus that floats all around us every day.”
