In The Lyrics by Nacole Stayton - Blog Tour, Book Review, Giveaway

Title: In the Lyrics
Author: Nacole Stayton
Publication Date: February 7, 2014
Hensley Bradley is the definition of the girl-next-door. She’s kindhearted, beautiful, and talented. Bored with her mundane life, thoughts of fleeing her small town begin to consume her. With aspiring dreams to use her voice as a one-way ticket, she suddenly discovers that music might not be her only passion.

After a fallout back home, Colby Grant decides to leave his family’s farm, determined to show his father he’s more than just a wanna-be country singer. With his All-American good looks, it doesn’t take long for girls in his new town to focus their eyes on him. But things aren’t what they appear from the outside, and it isn’t long until Colby feels he doesn't fit into the perfect world that so quickly embraced him.

A chance encounter places Hensley in Colby’s path, but it isn’t her natural beauty that first captures his attention – it’s her voice.

When love and music mix, will the combination blossom into a beautiful melody or wither into a heart-wrenching tune?

Hensley wanted to get out of town – and the only way she sees how is by the use of her voice. She’s nice, beautiful, kindhearted and talented. Unlike other girls, she doesn’t waste her time on guys and dates, she was focused on her goal. Not until Colby Grant strutted in town breaking all her walls.

There’s Dusty, her old friend who’s always there for her, sharing her passion and just being a friend to her. He was loyal to her, and even though time had passed, and they have lost communication, he still came running when he was needed.

Colby decided to leave their family-owned farm after a nasty fight with his father. He wanted to follow his dreams of becoming a singer. Armed with his guitar, and an armful of dreams, he left home. It didn’t take a while for girls to notice the new guy in town, but he had only eyes on one girl – although she seemed to hate him at first. She had already captivated him at first sight, but hearing her voice, her passion when she sings, he was already a goner.

It didn’t take a while before Hensley’s animosity turned into admiration as Colby flawlessly enters not just into her life, but in her heart as well. It’s easier because both of them shared their love and passion for music. They have the same dream for their future – but what if that dream will only come true for one of them?

Hensley – I hate her impulsiveness to drink when her emotions get the best of her. She knew she was already a lightweight and almost get in trouble in the past. But she still got drunk, went with someone whom both Dusty and Colby didn’t trusted – good thing Colby was there, or else!!! Argh. Alcohol doesn’t solve anything at all – it will just make you act stupid, and give you one heck of a hang-over.

They were perfect together – they had several ups and downs, some may try to separate them but still they stood strong, but in the end their relationship faltered and I just want to shout: what in the world is going on? How can a stable, strong, and great relationship just vanish like that? Is it the distance? The pride? The bitterness? I was wondering if I was in for a cliffhanger (good thing it wasn’t!!!), or if they would really end up together-my fingers were crossed, even in the final page. What if there was a twist that would just break my heart? Ah yes, the thrill of anticipation is somewhat killing me here…

In the Lyrics wasn’t just your love story – it also talked about alcoholism and its effect on family dynamics.

Nacole Stayton did not just had a beautiful cover for In the Lyrics, she made a wonderful story about two people who shared the same passion, the same dreams, and even the same baggage. They fell in love, tried to stay in love, brought apart by some reason, and by the end of the day, they still found a way back into each other’s arms.

excerpt -
“Do you know the first thing that I noticed about you?”

She shakes her head no.

“It was your confidence. I had just gotten to town and was going to grab a bite to eat and then call Dusty, but I saw this girl sitting on the street corner.”

“I felt like you were staring holes in my head,” she says softly.

“Truthfully, I was. Anyway, once you started to sing…it was like…ya know when your favorite song comes on the radio and you’re jammin’, listening to every word, your heads bobbin’, and you’re just feeling the music, but then your phone rings and you know it’s a call you can’t miss? There’s a split second where you debate on pressing forward to voicemail so you can finish the song, but you’ve been waiting for this call, so you turn down the radio knowing you’ll miss your favorite part just to answer it. It was like you were my favorite song, and I was forwarding my calls to voicemail. In that moment, I didn’t care who was standing around me. All I was worried about was tuning in to you, listening to your voice.”

“I love you.” Those three simple words are spoken, and much to my amazement it’s Hensley that says them first.

Clutching her face hard in my hands, I kiss her. I kiss her for being so darn dumb and insecure, for acting like a jealous girl, and more importantly, for loving me through it all.
