sprinkled in political beliefs, culture and a whole lot of differences, well,
that thickens the line a bit.
I could already see the sparks between Lucia Ramirez and
Dane Monroe. He hated her, and she? Oh well, she had a huge crush on him. The
both of them can play a great game of volleyball – she’s a blocker, and he’s a
setter – both of them have volleyball scholarships, but their similarities didn’t
end there. They both have secret service guards following after them, and one
of their parent is running for the presidency. The paparazzi are hounding them,
trying to find something a story to feed the primetime news.
When the secret service throws them together in one roof,
Dane can no longer deny his attraction to Lucia. She was sweet, a little bit naïve,
and innocent in the ways of the world. I love her faith in people, and the
firmness of her belief. Unlike Dane’s belief, she has her own mind and doesn’t really
follow everything her father believes in. It didn’t take long before Dane
notices it too, and day by day, he found himself liking the child of his mother’s
opponent.
I love how the author tackled the issue on body image. Some
of us might be in denial, but the disorder is rampant, especially with young
girls. It is important that early detection is done, and couple it with
psychological support as well. Dane was an amazing support system, he didn’t
judge, he knows exactly what she needs and gives it to her without asking for
anything in return. Discussions with regards to their political beliefs were
set aside, an unlikely friendship was formed, that led into something else.
With the political race coming to an end, and college
athletics: can the both of them stand the pressure? Can they set aside their
differences, defy the odds and be together?
Indeed, love disregards every bit of differences. I fell
in love with this couple. They are endearing to read, even when they were
bickering, especially when Lucia speaks back. It was a great read, I was
thoroughly entertained until the ending. The ending got my heart palpitating – I
almost ran out of breath, and despite the fact that it ended that way (not what
I expected), I think it was perfect. For every sports-romance fans out there, you give this one a shot!
