Sent to the family ranch to overcome his addiction, Taylor Reese is angry and hurt. Feeling rejected by his father and brother, Taylor throws himself into ranch life to help him forget. He struggles with his addiction, though he refuses help. But it isn’t long before it hits him hard how much his life has spiraled out of control. He begins to question every aspect of his life, and the confusion leaves him floundering and looking for something, or someone, to cling to.
Libby Karlin is cautious, wary of Taylor’s presence. His brutal honesty and lack of respect claw at her composure. Her dark past makes her reluctant to let anyone near her family, but when Taylor strikes up a friendship with her son, Libby finds herself drawn to the sadness within him. His experiences are no secret to her. She sees where his world turned upside down and offers him a helping hand. But her own secrets stay buried, locked away until a knock on her door has her gasping for breath.
Libby’s fear paralyzes her as she comes face to face with her demons and, determined to stay strong, she battles for a way out.
Could dealing with their pasts really give them a future?
Taylor Reese is angry, cranky, alone, and hurt. He had
never felt so abandoned his entire life. He was sent to the family ranch to
overcome his addiction after he bail himself out of rehab. At first, he spent
his days on his bed, tossing and turning, until he was forced to work on the
field. It helped him divert his attention from the withdrawal symptoms and his cravings.
He started out as a bad boy, a complete a**, someone who was too angry, someone
you wouldn’t want to get near too. But you will understand him better as the
story progress, you will get inside his brain, understand his thoughts, and where
he is coming from. You can feel his pain, his hardship as the withdrawals
become harder for him, but despite that fact – he stayed clean. Perhaps it was
because he was I the middle of nowhere, but he has the choice to escape, and
get some hit, but he didn’t.
Maybe partly because there was Libby, and Levi. She was
friendly, and cautious. She has a lot to lose, starting with her heart. At first,
he caught her off guard because he was harsh with his words. But it was her
past that made her reluctant to destroy the walls that guards her heart and her
family. So when Taylor started to change and offered her friendship, which
extended to her son, Libby found herself more drawn to him. He shared his past,
all his demons with her, and waited for her to do the same. But if she shared
those secrets with him, he might find himself in more trouble…
When her nightmare stood before her, she tried to stay
strong, and finds a fast escape. Will Taylor let her? Or will she finally give
in?
Both of them has a past they were so not proud of, both
had the same amount of baggage and of pain – they may not be aware of it, but
they have helped each other in more ways than one. Maybe their environment have
helped too in their healing, and so has the people around them. When the issue
was settled, I thought it was the end, but it was almost easy, and I thought
that was it. I was ready to finally have that happy ending, until another twist
was sent my way… and I think I was holding my breath until the next chapter…
People change, no matter how bad they might be, no matter
what happened in their past, when one is willing, one can change for the
better. This is what Taylor proved that he can. He was worthless, he had no
direction, he was so angry – he needed a good shove, a little punishment and a
whole lot of love to finally wake up from his stupor and grow up.
I liked the cover the first time I saw this one, and was
eager to review this book when it was offered to me. Thank goodness, I wasn’t
disappointed. I loved reading this as much as I loved the cover. I love the
journey I was with the two characters, all their pains, and triumphs, their ups
and downs, and all those bumps in the roads. It makes the whole journey worth
it when we finally arrived in the destination.
