Fade In by M. Mabie - Blog Tour, Book Review, Giveaway

Tatum Elliot is a successful writer on a hit television show, lives in an Upper East Side apartment and loves her life. She wouldn’t change a thing. Unfortunately, she doesn’t have a choice. She's losing her sight.

Tripping over her tongue and her heels, Tatum all too quickly realizes that the things which appeared so important before are slowly slipping away leaving room for what really matters. With the support of her best friends, family and colleagues, she begins to see that there’s much more to life… and herself.

When Ben Harris enters her life as her new personal assistant, she can’t tell if it’s his good looks and charm that are working on her libido, or his kind and helpful nature working on her heart? Whatever it is, neither one of them can resist it.

As her vision fades out, a world of love and happiness just might…Fade In.

Fade In is a contemporary-romance novel about laughing through your tears and telling life to, quite frankly, “Suck it.” This novel contains sexual situations that the author may or may not have tried at home… for your safety, of course. Research is research.

Tatum Elliot had lived her life the way she wanted it. She is a force to be reckon with and I love her to death. She is by no means boring. She has a mouth that can put a sailor to shame, and she knows what she wants in life. She had everything: a good job, a great apartment, and a zest for life. But there is one thing though, something she has no power over with – she was about to lose her vision.

How can an independent person with a very strong personality lives her life when her vision starts to fade?

I know it would be hard. Heck. She is one stubborn woman who likes to do stuffs her own way. She knows how to make a clean break, and breaking up with her boyfriend of two-years Kurt (which is by the way the most awesome break-up move I have ever read) gave her some realizations. She rarely let people in and do things for her. She was fine on her own. UNTIL NOW.

She was a train-wreck waiting to happen. Bruises from bumping into things she can’t see on her peripheral visions starts to get many. She refused therapy, and blind school and opted for a personal assistant and a driver instead.

Then here comes Ben Harris, the yummy-looking guy who became her new personal assistant who seemed too over qualified for the job and knows her needs before she even opens her mouth. He was perfect, and he was too dangerous for her libido. She tried to fight it off- as hard as she can – rationalizing about the employee-employer relationship. But his good heart, his charms, his sexiness was just too much for her. For an independent person, she craves for him more and more.

But Ben is keeping something from her, and she knew it deep down. There was an air of mystery to this guy. And whatever it is, I’m was also curious. I have a feeling I know this guy…

Stubborn might not be apt to describe Tatum, I need a much stronger adjective for this woman. I have never met someone more independent and more afraid than her. It was hard watching her fight of the help that was offered to her, half of her was still in denial that she was losing her sight, and that reality wasn’t an easy pill to swallow. Thank goodness for Ben who arrived at the right time, trying to make things easy for her. That’s why it was just too easy to fall in love with this guy. Not just he was handsome, but he was sweet as well. He was caring, generous, and thoughtful. What more can she ask for?

And when the secret was finally out – I knew she’d bail! I knew she’d kicked him out, although I wished she wouldn’t and she’d have listened to his explanations. But she was hurt and she felt betrayed. Yet, I think this is where I loved Ben the most – because he gave her space and he waited. He knew she needed it and will eventually come around. His patience can match her stubbornness, and that’s why these two are just perfect for each other.

Fade In has a compelling storyline that kept my eyes wide open throughout the wee hours of the morning. M. Mabie wrote a great novel with a set of characters you won’t forget, starting with Tatum. It made me laugh, it made me cry, it made me fall in love, it made me swoon, it made me hot, it made me want to wake up and finish every single page, wondering how will this all end, and wondering who Ben really is. Fate has really it's own way of making you believe in love, and bringing you back to the person you are meant to be with. I’m sure M.Mabie will get a whole lot of fans after reading her first novel!

Tatum, just because something is in the dark doesn’t mean it won’t shine.

"Ben?"

"Tatum." Hearing my name cross his lips in that sultry voice is more of a turn-on than I could have ever imagined and I need to shut it down. "You looked really pretty this morning."

"I did?"

"Yep. And I bet you look even better right now in bed."

My pulse races. How does he know I'm in bed?

He yawns, and that makes me yawn too, even though now I'm wide awake.

"Thanks. You weren't that bad to look at yourself. What makes you think I'm in bed?"

"I don't know. I was just guessing. It is the middle of the night." He pauses before adding, "And that's where I've been picturing you."

I blush. "You're picturing me? What am I wearing?" I laugh to myself, thinking that the cliché question is suppose to be "What are you wearing?" But we're in his imagination and I'm eager to know what he keeps there.

He makes a humming sound that vibrates all the way through me. "You really want to know?"

"Yes." My one-word answer comes out slowly and wavers in and out, sounding like a question.

I hear the air hiss through his teeth before he says, "It isn't much. Sleep well. I'll see you in the morning." Then he's gone before I even say goodnight or talk him further into a pay-by-the-minute type of conversation.

I won't bore you with the details, but my faithful device, Mr. Right, just didn't cut it tonight. Maybe it's time for a new one.

Or new lots of things.

M. Mabie lives in Illinois, NOT Chicago, with her rock-star husband. (True story.)  She loves writing for Fifty5Cents Book Blog, which she owns and operates- at the moment quite poorly.  She's a proud member of the Indie Author Romance Author Chicks writing group where she maintains a high standard of professionalism and lady-like maturity- or not.

She cares about politics, but won’t discuss them in public. She uses the same fork at every meal, watches Wayne’s World while cleaning, and lets her dog sleep on her head.

M. Mabie has never been accused of being tight lipped or shy. She’s THAT girl.
(She doesn't usually speak in third-person, but surprisingly does when weirded-out about writing her bio.)
