Avoiding Amy Jackson by NA Alcorn - Blog Tour, Book Review, Giveaway

Book: Avoiding Amy Jackson
Author: N A Alcorn
Genre: Contemporary Romance (humour)
Meet Amy Jackson. An outspoken, raunchy, in-your-face, loudly inappropriate ER Nurse who makes a career out of indulging.

One-night stands have always been her thing.

Commitment and relationships are two words that are not in her vocabulary.

Amy doesn't have dreams of soul mates and white picket fences. She adamantly refuses to even consider the idea of getting married and starting a family. She’s also obstinate in allowing a certain physician to get on her good side…

James Williams. A cocky, smug, too-damn-good-looking orthopedic surgeon who has his sights set on the very feisty Amy Jackson. He is more than intrigued and ready to do whatever it takes…

“I want this woman. I’m the type of guy who will fight for what he wants until he gets it. I will take my time with Amy. I won’t rush her. I will continue to slowly slide myself into her life until she realizes that I belong there. And then…I won’t let her go.”

This is Book Two in The Infamous Series.

I have been working in the hospital for over five years as a nurse, and I think having an ‘Amy Jackson’ in our Emergency Room nurse would either cause a riot or would be a great deal of fun.

She’s greedy and obnoxious, and she has no qualms with letting you know what she wants.

She’s nothing like I have ever encountered. The strength of her character (and yes, of her mouth), blew me away. Outspoken would probably be an understatement. This girl has some serious vocabularies that had me blushing. I don’t think I’m strong enough to utter those words inside my workplace, more so in front of doctors and patients. But her? She can get away with anything. You can’t really hate her. She may come strong, and may have those annoying moments – but she’s one heck of a nurse, and a friend. She makes up for every stubbornness or selfishness she might possess.

Her indulgence? Sex. Lots of one night stand, drinking, and picking up men. She doesn’t do relationships and commitments. She was the here-and-now person rather than the looking-into-the-future type. She doesn’t dream of prince charming, getter married or starting a family. And after what happened on the charity event, there was no way in hell a hot, sexy orthopedic surgeon is going to get on her good side.

In fairness to this sexy, orthopedic surgeon, he was just trying to be a gentleman. He was holding on to his control like there was no tomorrow, and was trying his best not to succumb to the temptation of a naked, drunken lady ready to tackle him. He wanted her, alright, BUT he wanted her sober and he wanted her to remember their night together.

Amy Jackson, however, didn’t take the rejection quite well. James Williams, however, will do anything to have her – whatever it takes. He will take the ‘friend’ route – what he didn’t expect was to enjoy the moment, and see the girl with a feisty mouth, and a sexy body in a different light. He didn’t expect to be smitten with her, and ultimately fall for her.

For months, she haven’t had picked anyone from the bar – how can she when she’s spending every moment with her, ummm… friend. That was so unlike her, she was beginning to change, and it was scaring her big time. This was one of my favorite parts of the novel – when her walls have been invaded, and she was stripped off of her defenses. Despite all her flaws, this girl has emotions, she had been hurt, been through a lot of pain and is still blaming herself for what happened years ago.

And because he’s her friend now – she tries to fight off the attraction and the intense sexual tension because she couldn’t risk ruining their friendship. James had to take it painfully slow, at first, he was quite not sure if she was worth all the effort, but as he gets to spend more time with her, and got to know her better, he stopped questioning. This girl deserves more than what she was getting.

I had so, so much fun and jaw-dropping moments in reading this novel. It's funny, it's naughty, it's simply great. Again, I haven’t met someone like her, even at the workplace. It is always refreshing to come across new types of characters that will sweep you off your feet, and knock some hard senses into you as well as some plots that will leave you in awe. I was glad I came across Avoiding Amy Jackson, and I’m so eager to recommend it to friends.

“So is it true what I’ve heard about marines?” I ask nonchalantly.

He cocks his eyebrow inquisitively. “What exactly have you heard about marines?”

“Once a marine, always a marine. I hear you guys even yell out, ‘Oorah!’ during sex.” I try like hell to keep my face devoid of any emotion, especially amusement.

James’s fist slams down onto the table as he lets out a deep laugh. Our coffee cups vibrate from the motion and tiny droplets slide down the side of my cup onto the small, red table. “Uh. No,” he answers through his laughter.

“Never? C’mon. You mean to tell me you’ve never yelled that out during sex? Even when you come?” I wipe the spilled coffee off the table with a beige napkin that proudly displays the shop’s logo.

James’s tickled expression makes me grin.

“God, you’re outrageous, but to answer your question, no. Never. I’m saving it for when I meet the woman of my dreams.” His face beams with hilarity. James unleashes his most impressive megawatt smile and I instantly feel needy for his attention.

A self-deprecating laugh escapes my throat as I try to brush off the unnerving feeling that is occurring inside of me. “You’re good. Really good. I bet you have women throwing themselves at you all the time.” My face immediately flushes red when a particular embarrassing memory comes to mind.

“I don’t turn on the charm for just anyone, Amy,” he states with a determined stare, his eyes piercing into mine.

“That doesn’t seem like a response someone would give to their friend.” He may need sunglasses for the glare I’m giving him.

“Sometimes, with you, I just can’t help myself, but I promise I’ll try to be better.” He holds his hand to his chest, asking for forgiveness.

“I guess I’ll let that one slide, but if it happens again, I can’t make any promises what my reaction will be,” I warn before I finish the rest of my coffee.

N.A. Alcorn lives in Cincinnati with her husband and three-year-old son. She enjoys writing and has a voracious love for reading. She has a serious addiction to music and her all-time favorite bands are Incubus and The Neighbourhood. Her sense of humor is wildly inappropriate and she never goes a day without laughing. She also likes chocolate…a lot. Her ability to eat an ungodly amount of Reese’s Cups in a fifteen minute time frame would quite literally blow your mind.
