Book Summary

Sadie White's summer job isn't going to be on the beach life-guarding or working at rental booths like most kids her age. With her single mother's increasing pregnancy and refusal to work, Sadie has to take over her mother's job as a domestic servant for one of the wealthy summer families on a nearby island.

When the family arrives at their summer getaway, Sadie is surprised to learn that the owner of the house is Jax Stone, one of the hottest teen rockers in the world. If Sadie hadn't spent her life raising her mother and taking care of the house she might have been normal enough to be excited about working for a rock star.

Even though Sadie isn't impressed by Jax's fame, he is drawn to her. Everything about Sadie fascinates Jax but he fights his attraction. Relationship's never work in his world and as badly as he wants Sadie, he believes she deserves more. By the end of the summer, Jax discovers he can't breathe without Sadie.

But can their love overcome the disparity in their lifestyles? Or will they have to learn how to without each other breathe again?

Book Review

Breathe is another modern Cinderella story. It was an easy read, a book that you can feel good about. It wasn’t heart wrenching, and couldn’t bring you a bucket of tears – but it could bring you myriad of emotions: excitement, fun, love, rejection, hope. It will give you a soft emotional roller coaster that you couldn’t put this novel down.

I like this book because…
  • I like the setting, it was perfectly described. No wonder a famous star would make it as his secret vacation spot.
  • It doesn’t only deal with love but also family.
  • The characters, except Jax. Sadie is responsible and became and early provider for her mother. When she fell in love with Jax, I admire that she stick to reality. She didn’t have demands and was willing to enjoy the moment while it lasts. For a teen-ager, that was a mature thinking (considering that falling in love makes you irrational). She’s very pragmatic, and I love it about her. Marcus is amazing too, yes, I am one of the readers who wished she’d settle for him because he’s okay.
  • Plot. It doesn’t deal with the usual, boy-fell-in-love-with-the-girl-vice-versa-end-of-story type but it also showed what happens when they finally get together.
Can’t give this a 5 because…
  • Humigahd! There are a lot of cheesy parts that gave me the creeps.
  • Jax is too-good-to-be-true. He’s a prince charming coming out of the fairy tale book.
Nevertheless, I enjoyed reading Breathe and perhaps those readers who have a soft spot for a nice, sweet romance may find this one endearing as well.

He doesn’t deserve it. He can have any girl in the world’s love and he took yours. Someone who deserves so much more than a summer fling.
