Book Summary
The new Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn’t drink or swear, and she has the appropriate percentage of cardigans in her wardrobe. Abby believes she has enough distance between her and the darkness of her past, but when she arrives at college with her best friend America, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University’s Walking One-Night Stand.

Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby needs—and wants—to avoid. He spends his nights winning money in a floating fight ring, and his days as the charming college co-ed. Intrigued by Abby’s resistance to his charms, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis’ apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match. (from goodreads.com)

Book Review

Beautiful Disaster is my first Jamie Mcguire book. The plot is a cliché, yet it was still worth the read. It was the good-girl-falls-in-love-with-the-bad-boy type of thing. Abby is a freshman who hopes to stay out of trouble, ironically, she met Travis, the very thing that she wanted to avoid.

Travis is the dream man of those girls who are the I-want-to-save-your-soul type and those that wanted I-can’t-get-my-hands-off-you type. Abby is a nice heroine and I like her for wanting to change her life. I just wished she was more honest with her feelings rather than allowing Travis to figure her out. I mean – guys hardly figure anything out with girls, you really need to shove it into their faces for them to know. I love Abby’s friendship with America/Mare, she’s such a very loyal friend. America and her boyfriend’s story is also interesting.

This book is not about a perfect love story. Their relationship (when they finally get to have one) is an emotional rollercoaster that was stressful to read. I have this urge to tell them to stop fighting and just get on with their lives. The twist on Abby’s past was pretty amazing and creative. Although I believe that it lacks closure.

Beautiful Disaster is not your usual teeny-bopper-oh-so-cute YA novel you see on bookstores. This book depicts the reality of human relationship: passion, love, heartbreak and fights. If you like lust, witty characters, poker nights, illegal college fights and not to mention very good sex, you might want to read this one.

“It's dangerous to need someone that much. You're trying to save him and he's hoping you can. You two are a disaster." I smiled at the ceiling. "It doesn't matter what or why it is. When it's good, Kara... it's beautiful.”

“To douchebags!" he said, gesturing to Brad. "And to girls that break your heart," he bowed his head to me. His eyes lost focus. "And to the absolute fucking horror of losing your best friend because you were stupid enough to fall in love with her.”
