Book Review | Lust is the Thorn by Jen McLaughlin (@DianeAlberts)

From the bestselling author of Bad Romance comes an edgy novel about a reformed bad boy training to be a priest and the fallen angel who makes him think twice about giving up earthly pleasures.

Growing up hard and fast on the mean streets of Chicago, Thorn McKinney didn’t have a prayer—until tragedy inspired him to join the seminary. Now the time has come to take his vows, and yet he’s haunted by the woman he can’t leave behind: his best friend’s little sister. Despite Thorn’s promises that he’d keep her safe, she’s going through hell. And now he finds himself torn between duty and desire, entranced by the seductive pull of her trusting eyes, innocent heart, and sinfully sweet curves.

Trying to let Thorn pursue his calling, Rose Gallagher has been hiding some things: namely her abusive boyfriend and her job as a stripper. But when she hits rock bottom, Thorn is there for her—and now there’s no denying the raw temptation that draws them together in their darkest moments. Rose may have found salvation in his strong arms, but she knows that Thorn must choose his own path: in the church, or in the warm embrace of a woman’s love.

Love rips your heart out when you can't be with someone. Love can complete you, or tear you down. Love waits hundreds of years to be fulfilled, and never dies. Love is something you'll wait your whole life for, and love is something you'll give up everything for, in a heartbeat.

I love the rollercoaster romance of the reformed bad boy who is training to become a priest and the bad girl who unknowingly tempts him at every turn.

Thron McKinney is changing his life. He didn’t want to become like his mother or his best friend who was killed in a car accident. He joined the seminary and was training to become a priest. He was yet to take his vows. He was almost sure about his direction in life until one tragedy once again made him cross paths with his best friend’s little sister. He made a promise to his best friend before he died that he will take care of her – but how can he resist the temptation in front of him?

Rose Gallager is not your typical girl. She’s far from perfect and she’s the last girl you’d want to be around someone who is about to take his vows. She was at the lowest point in her life when Thorn saved her once again. She knew what he needed to do, but then she couldn’t resist the temptation. She has to have him, if it’s only for a night. But regardless of the fact that she was in love with him since she was old enough to know what love is, she knew she need to let him go. He was off to a bright future, while hers was still unsure.

The more time they spent together, the temptation heightens – and both are crossing the lines between friendship and something more. But what if the truth about the past comes out – will their love and faith in each other be strong enough to withstand it?

At first I didn’t thought I would like it, considering the circumstances. But the more I get to know the characters and I get to discover their past, I was slowly changing my mind. Maybe some things are fated to happen, and some things aren’t.

Unusual romance, intense, powerful and steamy – it kept me on my seat, savoring each single page.
