Book Summary

'Even my most humiliating moments seemed funny somehow when I told them to Jess.' Gemma Mitchell is a normal girl who somehow gets herself into abnormally embarrassing circumstances. And while she thinks she's the biggest loser in school because of them, there are a few people in her life who would disagree. One of those people is her best friend, Jess Tyler, who is opposite to her in every way. He's popular, good looking, athletic, and intelligent, and he can't get enough of Gemma. But while Gemma is dealing with problems like wrong locker combinations and Valentine's Day dances, Jess is living in a world of serious issues that are foreign to Gemma, until she realizes that he's holding on to her for dear life. Humorous and true to life, Second Kiss is an entertaining saga about a boy and girl who find that their lives have a lot more meaning once they have shared them with each other.

Book Review

Second Kiss is a well-written love story between two best friends Gemma and Jess. Gemma is your usual teen-ager who makes a couple of wrong decisions because of her naivety and ends up being saved by Jess most of the time. Jess, on the other hand, is someone every mom wishes her daughters would end up with. He takes good care of Gem and waited for the right time.

I like this book mainly because it tells the story of friendship more than love. It’s a story of how they survive peer pressure, family problem, relationship, bullies with no one to turn to but themselves. Their friendship is something girls would die to have. The ending is nice, it makes you realize that the first kiss is not really that important, because even the second one (especially from the one you really care about) is sweeter than the first.

However, it would really be nice if Second Kiss has a sequel. I wanted to know what happens after the last scene of the book. It feels like a cliffhanger – a really nice cliffhanger.

“Cancer. The word meant the same to me as tsunami or piranha. I had never seen them; I wasn't even quite sure what they were, but I knew they were bad and I knew in many cases they were deadly.”
