Candis Terry returns to Sweet, Texas for the last time when former Marine Jake Wilder discovers how truly sweet love can be.

When the one you’ve always wanted

At sixteen, Annabelle Morgan hoped her crush on Jake Wilder was just a passing phase. Now she’s twenty-nine and nothing has changed except Jake. The once-carefree marine has come home with a giant chip on his shoulder. He insists a single mom like Annie deserves more than he can offer. Yet no matter how gruff his gorgeous exterior may be, Jake s toe-curling kisses convince her that this attraction is definitely mutual.

Becomes the one who wants you back

Butting heads with feisty Annie was always a thrill. Add other body parts to the mix, and Jake is in serious trouble. He can’t be a forever-and-family guy and Annie s not a friends-with-benefits kind of woman. But love has a way of changing the best-laid plans, and surrender has never been so tempting.

The outcome is truly sweet.

"Life isn't about having it rush by so fast you can't see it. Sometimes, you have to sit back, take a breath, and let it happen."

War has its painful way of changing people.

Jake Wilder just came home from Afghanistan, along with bad memories, an honorable discharge and an injury that still caused him pain and constantly reminds him of what happened in the war zone. He was supposed to save his brothers and his best friend, Eli. But he failed.

He didn’t know if he was glad to come back to a familiar place surrounded by his family or be irritated by the constant hovering he gets from every one. Thank goodness, Annabelle Morgan doesn’t baby him. As far as he can remember, the talks between him and Annabelle Morgan would always end up in an argument. And it was a breath of fresh air from all the concerned and pity looks that thrown his way. Anna treats him like the way she used to do.

She had a huge crush on him since she was sixteen years old, and it just grew through time. The only thing that changed perhaps is the fact that Jake was finally home, emotionally wounded and she has a kid whom she needs to take a good care of. He didn’t have anything to offer her, not his heart, not security, especially not stability. The old wounds from his past were still fresh. She deserves more than he can offer. But he can’t resist kissing her.

Everything changes with the kiss. It is all there is. Jake can’t give her the commitment she wanted – would his toe-curling kisses be enough for this beautiful single mother?

Anna knows what she’s worth, and wasn’t going to give up easily to her desires. Yes, she wants him. But more than being a woman, she’s a mother first, and she totally got my respect for this. She’s a wonderful, wonderful mom. And despite the fact our hero isn’t ready to commit, she still offered him friendship, because she knew how much he needs one.
"But if you want my body, it comes as a package deal with my heart. It's not on loan just because I'm your friend. Take it or leave it."

Truly Sweet, more than just romance and steam, is a story of forgiveness and moving on. There were scenes that totally captured my heart and I couldn’t help but shed some tears. It was just very touching, and I think my heart stopped right at that moment. He needed to forgive himself first, he needed to talk to the people whom he think he disappointed before he can truly commit himself. And I’m glad he didn’t dive right in to a relationship with Anna when he was not ready, and Anna too. They waited, she let him go, he sought forgiveness and in the end, every single heart ache was just worth it.

Under the scorching sun in the rocky terrain of an Eastern province of Afghanistan, hell exploded in a firestorm of fury. In that hellhole, newly assigned Marine Second Lieutenant Jake Wilder and his twelve troops became the bull’s-eye in a merciless path of destruction.
When the first crack of incoming mortar rounds screamed over their heads and exploded approximately 100 meters behind them, Jake had no choice but to conclude that the confidential intel for their surveillance mission hadn’t been faulty. They’d been betrayed.
Jake dropped to his knees, shook the ringing from his ears, blinked, then leveled his weapon.
“Fucking assholes!” This verbal eruption came from his best friend, Sergeant Eli Harris, as he dove behind a boulder barely big enough to cover his ass while rapid fire and mortar rounds continued to discharge in their direction.
Any other time Jake would have laughed at Eli’s outburst. At the moment he was too busy scoping the hills in front of them from behind his own meager refuge. Everything around them was drab—brown hills, brown sand, brown dust floating in the air. The enemy didn’t fight in a uniform, and their garb was as colorless as the landscape, which made them hard to spot and twice as dangerous.
In his periphery, Jake caught the flash of sunlight against hard steel. “Contact north. 200 meters,” he shouted to his team. “Additional small RPG west.”
“Small RPG east. 150 meters and closing,” Eli shouted in return while scoping the opposite ridge.
Muzzle flashes continued as Jake grabbed his radio to call in and report the three-sided ambush and request air support. A lack of response signaled the radio was either dead or offline. He hoped it was only a momentary break in communication and not a sign that they were stranded out there without backup or communication while the enemy tried to turn them into Swiss cheese.
Not for the first time did he wonder if they were really brave or just plain crazy. A bullet pinged off a rock behind him. He hit the ground then belly crawled to a shelf of gravel that would give slightly better protection.
Crazy mothers, he decided. Just fucking crazy as hell.

Candis Terry was born and raised near the sunny beaches of Southern California and now makes her home on an Idaho farm. She’s experienced life in such diverse ways as working in a Hollywood recording studio to chasing down wayward steers. Only one thing has remained the same: her passion for writing stories about relationships, the push and pull in the search for love, and the security one finds in their own happily ever after.
