Leave it to the O’Learys to make romance a family affair…
Maggie O’Leary is finally coming home to Chicago. After more than a year in Ireland, she’s ready to make a plan for her future. But first, she’ll have to confront the tragedy that scarred her so deeply. Asking for a job in the family bar is the first step, and it’s one her family isn’t entirely happy about. At least Shane Callahan, her best friend in the world, is behind her a hundred percent. He’s also a hundred percent more lovable than she remembered…
Shane is determined to keep Maggie safe, even if it means working three jobs and giving up sleep to be around during her shifts at the bar. But when Maggie boldly tells him she needs more than a loyal friend now, Shane knows a single night together won’t be possible. The idea of spirited Maggie in his bed is electrifying, but will she believe he wants to give her his heart, too?

Friendship
would always be one of the strongest foundations of relationship. This is why
this plot is one of my favorites.
Confronting her past.
Maggie
was ready to face her past head-on. Finally, after more than a year, she went
back home to Chicago and was ready to put her future together without the past
hovering over her back. She asked for a job in the family bar which didn’t
really go well with her family. This is the bar where the incident happened,
and her family wasn’t sure that being there would be wise. It was a good thing
that Shane, her best friend, supported her.
How can she not know?
They
were best friends, and he was always there for her. Everyone knew, her family
knew how deep his feelings run for her – HOW CAN SHE NOT KNOW?! How can she not
feel that he was head over heels in love with her?
Coming
back from Ireland, Shane is determined to keep Maggie safe and keep her home
for good this time. Even if it means he was working hard than usual and giving
up sleep during her working hours at the bar.
When
Maggie asks him that she needs more than a loyal friend now, and it involves a
bed (or not) and exchanging of body fluids – would Shane agree? Would he risk his heart and take the leap?
He
was willing to do anything, sacrifice things and adjust his life for her. Who
wouldn’t swoon over this guy? I wished he had more courage to tell her how he
felt about her right from the start though.
They
had the best friendship, and I love their easy banters – which just proves how
close and comfortable they are with each other. No wonder Maggie chose Shane.
I
think Maggie is one of the strongest people I encountered in the fiction world.
What happened to her was no joke, it was devastating. But she was ready to face
it this time, and it was helpful she had Shane and the rest of her family
backing her up. Putting her past totally behind her wasn’t easy, there were a
lot of obstacles, but I was glad it was there – I saw Maggie’s character
developed as the story progressed.
Every
survivor has her story to tell, this is Maggie’s and I’m glad she had her happy
ending.
Shannyn is a former English teacher, who now works as a part-time editor while raising her three kids.
Even though she wrote from high school through college (mostly poetry), she’d never considered a career as an author. Writing fell by the wayside as she focused her energy on creating lesson plans and new and fabulous ways to torment her teen students. One group in particular dubbed her “The Torture Master,” a title she carried into motherhood.
After the birth of baby number two, Shannyn resigned from teaching and fell in love with reading romance novels. She read so many books so quickly that her husband teased, “If you’re going to read so many damn books, why don’t you just write one?”
So she did.
That first book is safely buried on her hard drive, but the process set Shannyn on the path to where she is today—agented with a debut ebook coming out with Kensington in late 2012.
She is recovering from her Diet Coke addiction, fears putting her foot in her mouth on social media, and has a renewed appreciation for the bad girls of the world.
