Book Summary

It's tough living in the shadow of a dead girl. . . .

In the five years since her bad-girl sister Xanda's death, Miranda Mathison has wondered about the secret her sister took to the grave, and what really happened the night she died. Now, just as Miranda is on the cusp of her dreams—a best friend to unlock her sister's world, a ticket to art school, and a boyfriend to fly her away from it all—Miranda has a secret all her own.

When two lines on a pregnancy test confirm her worst fears, Miranda is stripped of her former life. She must make a choice with tremendous consequences and finally face her sister's demons and her own.

In this powerful debut novel, stunning new talent Holly Cupala illuminates the dark struggle of a girl who must let go of her past to find a way into her own future.

Book Review

Tell Me A Secret is a total emotional roller coaster ride, a totally heavy read. I couldn't put it down, I was compelled to finish it in one sitting because I wanted to know what happens to Rand. This is one of the books that brings a different spice a cliché subject of teen pregnancy. Everything is so raw, and close to reality – in some pages, it was almost scary to go through. But the story was compelling and well done that you have to just finish it off to know how the whole thing will end. This kept me awake through the night because I wanted answers to my questions...

1. Will she be able to move on and stop living the past?
2. When will her mom stop being a hypocrite?
3. Will she have her happy ending with Kamran?

The best part of this whole book is the character growth of Miranda - on how she finally accepts things, learns from her mistakes and matures. This is a story of how the two pink lines on a pregnancy test changes a person’s life.

Tell Me A Secret ends with a surprising twist, with everything unraveled, secrets revealed and sins forgiven.

Favorite Quotes

“I started to sway Lexi again when I realized she was quiet. Waiting. Both of us paused on the cusp of the unknown. I couldn't go backward or even retrace my own steps, let alone Xanda's. I could only go forward. The threads of time weren't unraveling but weaving into a tapestry -- a future, and a hope.
The only way to discover was to step into it.”

“Keep your eyes on the future, because that's where the answers are. It's where the hope is.”

“If pregnant girls were sinner, what were liars called?”

“She looked like she wanted to take her right up to the baptismal waters and introduce her to some redemption.”
