A PROMISE OF MORE: The Disgraced Lords Series
A Loveswept Historical Romance
Written by Bronwen Evans
April 15, 2014
In the second novel in Bronwen Evans’s sexy new Disgraced Lords series, two very independent souls find themselves fighting to resist a deepening passion.

When Beatrice Hennessey sets out to confront Lord Coldhurst, the notorious rogue who killed her brother in a duel, her intent is to save her family from destitution. She’s determined to blackmail the man into a loveless marriage. She’ll make the wealthy Lord Coldhurst pay for the rest of his life. But while greeting his ship, Beatrice takes a tumble into the Thames—only to be fished out by a pair of strong masculine arms that tempt her to stay locked in their heated embrace forever. That is, until she realizes those arms belong to Sebastian Hawkestone, Lord Coldhurst himself.

The little drowned mermaid has an interesting proposition indeed; one that Sebastian is surprised to find quite agreeable. Although he’s had women more beautiful, she is pleasing to the eye, and besides, it’s time he fathered an heir. Beatrice promises to be the ideal wife; a woman who hates him with an all-consuming passion is far too sensible to expect romance. However, it isn’t long before Sebastian’s plan for a marriage of convenience unravels, and he’s caught up in the exhilarating undertow of seduction.

Every man should experience love. It would make us better men.

Ms. Bronwen Evans just fulfilled her promise of more.

Once you started reading the Libertine Scholars, you will surely look for more. And now, this is Sebastian’s story, and I guess, the series had just gotten better and better.

Here comes Beatrice Hennessey – the sister of the man who Lord Coldhurst killed in a duel. She wanted to confront him and blackmail him into marrying her to save her family. Someone had offered for her, but she’d die first, perhaps be a courtesan before she’d accept his offer. Their first meeting was an epic, she fell into Thames while waiting for his ship to dock, and he was the knight in shining armor that saved her.

She wasn’t that beautiful the first time he met her, that’s why he readily agreed to her proposition. To appease his guilt, to save his heart and to sire an heir, it was killing several birds in one stone. But first, he needed to tell her his terms…

I hated him, then I loved him, then hated him, then loved him – will you stop reminding her you married her to save her family from the poor house?! Can’t you just shut your mouth before you can say more damaging words? Sebastian can be a little exasperating at times. Especially when he can’t control his temper, or when he’s in a verge of a panic attack because he can’t control his emotions. BUT, in fairness to this character, he might not believed on love (which he constantly reiterate in this novel), but he loves his sisters very much and takes good care of them and protect them from the awful memories their parents left them. One thing I love about him though: he takes care of what belongs to him, and he would do everything in his power to protect them.

His parents were the reason he didn’t believe in love. He wanted to get married, not because of a love match. But he wanted a marriage that will foster trust, friendship and respect. He hated secrets and lies, and she wasn’t exactly truthful to him.

She had secrets, that wasn’t really hers, but she was bound to a promise. I wished she’d just tell him. They were already in danger, and she was snooping around. I didn’t really blame Sebastian when he started to be suspicious with her whereabouts, she didn’t really offered him the truth in the first place. He tried to asked, but she denied. So when she was caught – it was downright painful and heartbreaking, and yes, being a woman, you’d want to snap his neck because he wouldn’t hear her explanations.

She wanted love, he didn’t want it. It was a game they were playing, and Beatrice is determined to have him believe in love and fall in love with her. Will she eventually thaw the ice that surrounds his heart?

A Promise of More is a perfect mix of romance, suspense and mystery that will keep you hanging to your readers.

Who in the world wants them dead?

In the last chapter, Ms. Evans allowed her readers a glimpse of the woman who started this vendetta against the Libertine Scholars. She was ruthless, alright – but she had one thing I didn’t expect someone like her to have: a conscience. I still had no idea who this woman might be, and the remaining Libertine Scholars, probably including Serena are still in danger from her. She will stop at nothing to avenge herself. Ms. Evans sure knows how to heighten the anticipation of her readers, and I must say, I can’t wait for the rest of these disgraced lords’ story and the revelation of the identity of the girl who wanted them all punished.
